Oil Filter Cover

Just drained the engine oil out of my 2014 v7 stone. I was going to also change the filter, but the engine oil filter cover doesn't come loose. I am referring to the black piece of metal with heat fins. I tried to hand loosen it as well as a couple of other tricks - no success.

Anyone have any tips for getting that piece off?

Put a 13mm socket on a 3/8" drive ratchet and loosen the long bolt that runs through it into the block.

Thanks. I did take out the bolt. The cover did not come off. It is like the cover is caked on. Unfortunately there is nothing to grab on to, to twist and turn the cover out either.

I am assuming it is supposed to just pop off as the spring on the filter side pushes it out. Mine doesn't ...

Yes, that's the theory. Problem is that the o-ring can cause it to stick. Get a tiny flat bladed screwdriver and gently lever around the edge of the joint between the plate and the sump, eventually it will separate. Obviously care needs to be taken, don't just bash and lever away!

What Pete said.  Don't put any pressure on the fins, because they will break off.  When reinstalling, use a new O-ring and make sure it's got oil or grease on it before you install it.
