Breva/Norge Panniers
« on: May 12, 2017, 06:59:22 AM »
I know that the later Breva/Norge panniers from MG had an extra attachment/protuuding pin to keep them tight on the spacer that runs across the back of the bike.

Has anyone go a decent picture showing where this is located as mine doesn't have this feature and I thought a judiciously placed SS bolt would serve the same purpose

Cheers

Sort of  :thumb:
On the later panniers there's a loop on that cross piece that hooks onto a metal lug on the pannier
It's the position of that lug I'm trying to sus out .I'm not sure if its on that lump you can see on the pannier or somewhere else

There is a metal loop that locks down where the panniers engage the bit so they cannot slide backwards once seated,  but it's not on the rubber stop.  The metal loop is forward of the panniers...is that what you are looking for?

Yep, the screw sits on the protrusion on the bag as shown in the pictures.  It should be easy to fabricate something.

The original rubber strap that held them tight against the spacer has never been available from MG.  I original made up a metal latch, but now I just use appropriately sized rubber O-rings.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you are talking about.  Looking at the parts catalogue for both the first and current generation Norge, there is nothing like you describe.  The only "loop" is the one on the front of the side cases to keep them from sliding back if the latch somehow releases.  Unless someone made their own safety latch, there is nothing from Moto Guzzi as you are describing - even the police cases use the same mounting system.

I don't think that's what he's referring to mate. The one he means runs left to right across the back to stop the arse end flapping around. I took mine off from new, no ill effects, but I have fitted an extra lock on each pannier at the front for extra sealing from water. The original set up is sub standard given the frail nature of the lids. I didn't like the the cross brace 'cos I figured if the bike went arse up, it would push on the rear guard an I'd be up for one of those. Bugger that...

I'm not sure that I understand correctly, English is not my first language.  But if you're talking about the adjustable "thingies" sticking out at the licence plate with the rubber tip touching the rear backside of the panniers: Breva had them, Norge never did.  Rode Breva for 6 years with and Norge for 3 without them.  Asked my dealer about it and he said: no problem, Norge panniers won't fall off.  They didn't, even though I suspect they were seriously overloaded from time to time. So, no sweat.  If I misunderstood you, apologies.

Here is the one on my '07. It's been hanging there for ten years. I'm sure it would have broken by now, had I used it, but the bags had nothing for it to attach to.

Here you go, item 4 that the plastic thingy in Nicks picture hooks over.
The original question was where this is screwed into the case as I haven't found anything that shows that, but it looks like KD answered that

However, judging by the responses it serves little or no purpose worth worrying about!

I shall consign that question to history, but if this weekend on my first fully loaded mission my panniers fall off and bounce down the road I shall blame you lot

Thanks for the guidance
