Griso to the "End of The World"
« on: June 18, 2017, 07:59:58 PM »

Just when you think New Orleans is WAY on down there in the very interesting state of Louisiana, I learned of Venice.
Nice Italian sounding place I thought to myself, I had lived in a Venice Florida 30+ years ago. Turns out this ones the last community down the Mississippi accessible by motorcycle, and it is the southern terminus of the Great River Road. This has earned the town the nickname "The end of the world". Count me in!
I pack up the Griso, leave work early this past Tues, and head out of Atlanta(30 min north there of) for a pre-arranged Airboat ride through marsh land involving alligators and other critters...
This area of the country is so beautiful, people find a way to carry on. Weather be damned.

Gators and an Airboat, wonderful combination!

Free-Loader looking for marshmellow bits hops a ride on our boat..

Finally make it to Venice

I'll leave THIS road to the Stelvio's!

Ferry over the mighty Mississippi

Most evening travel will involve a good clean up after.. Mmmmm tastes like chicken!

Fort Jackson along the Miss. An historic masonry fort located some 40 miles up river from the mouth of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish.
It was constructed as a coastal defense of New Orleans between 1822 and 1832.

On over to Grand Isle. about 30 miles by boat, 180 on the Guzzi..

Meal of Redfish. More Mmmm..

Great ride, great food and people. 1500 miles, 4-1/2days, and a wee bit of rain just to make it interesting.

Can't wait to go back!  Hope you enjoyed the report!

Wonderful post with pics as it has been at least 30 years since I've been to Venice, LA. Then the road ended at the entrance to a chemical plant Oh, no gravel, just oyster shells instead.

Now take the Griso  to the headwaters of the Miss in Minn and walk across the Miss.

Obviously you missed all the posts by whiny old farts saying you can't tour on a Griso because the tank isn't big enough? I reckon it's a great touring bike with the ability to wick-up nicely when you find some fun roads but what would I know?
