Finally lost the screw on gas cap on my R100GS
« on: June 29, 2017, 06:53:47 PM »
Don't get old ..... you'll forget things!

Today, riding home from a pleasant tour thru some NE Ohio wine country, I noticed an aroma of gasoline coming from my bike as I rode home.  Initially I blamed it on some additive BP had put in their fuel.

Unfortunately, it was caused because I'd left my fuel cap on my rear rack after filling up, and covered my mistake with a tank bag.  The good news is ..... I'd never cut the flapper out of the fuel tank, and all I experienced was a whole lot of fumes as I rode home.

Gas cap is gone forever ..... but I was fortunate to contact Re Psycycle BMW Parts near Columbus OH, who found an aftermarket cap for me.  Local dealers had no NOS caps.  Cap should be here in a few days.

I did the math:

Average mileage between fill ups is 200 miles
Bike currently has 152000 miles
Which means I've removed and replaced the cap approx 760  times

So, why did I pick today to leave the cap off my bike ? ................... ....

Don't start to worry until you try to get off the bike without the sidestand being deployed...
