Stranded in West Va. An excerpt from a book
« on: July 22, 2017, 11:07:04 AM »
From the book "Soul Rider: Facing Fear and Finding Redemption on a Harley"
This is the story of a woman who went on an incredible journey. Carolyn Fox was a single mother and lawyer haunted with grief and secrets, and facing her fiftieth birthday.By Carolyn Fox
http://www.salon.com/2017/07/21/stranded-in-west-virginia/

This is story on Salon is taken from the book Soul Rider: Facing Fear and Finding Redemption on a Harley

PLEASE NOTE  THERE IS A GUN MENTIONED IN THIS STORY. DO NOT RUIN IT AND START TALKING ABOUT GUNS. OTHERWISE YOU WILL GET THIS THREAD NUKED. IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU READ THEN BUY THE BOOK OR COMMENT ON THE SHORT EXERPT:  BUT DO NOT NOT RUIN THE THREAD!!
If anything this is reveals the perils of a single woman riding across country oh her bike. She faces something probably none of us have faced when broken down on the HWY by ourselves.
AGAIN leave the gun out.  If anything blame the lousy Harley for breaking down.

Didn't seem like peril to me.   He was probably just checking to see if she was someone who needed or wanted a ride.

Sounds like she watched "Deliverance" one too many times.    Someone as nervous as this probably SHOULD leave her ... thingie .... back at the room.

This is what she thought of the encounter if you read it:" He is driving an older black GTO and deliberately sits so low in the seat, I’m surprised he can see over the dashboard. Neither of us acknowledges the other as he passes; this is not a friendly encounter. Instantly, my nerves tingle and I’m on guard. I have seen his type before in my law office. This man has the look of a predator."
She sees the "deliverance" types in here law office and knows one when she sees one.

Dude just wanted a date. The GTO alone would be enough in many cases.

That's the equivalent of flowers and a personal introduction in West Virginia ....

I asked everybody not to mention the gun. Changing the name of it to a "thingie" does not work.

There is no prohibition against discussing guns here , as long as the discussion stays inside of the rules .

There is certainly no shortage of creeps (and worse) in this world. Better that this woman should over react and go into a protection mode rather than take the chance this is just a nice guy looking for companionship.
