« on: July 25, 2017, 07:16:30 PM »
Im looking at purchasing a 2013 Stelvio.  Ive read about the buzzing in the handlebars.  Any other issues I need to read/study/learn or watch for?  Thank-You for any info....

In general the 2013 had few issues. All CARC bikes need to have the swingarm greased, as they were chronically under-lubed from the factory. Like virtually all Moto Guzzi models, the starter wiring is prone to be under-gauged and require the famous startus-interruptus modification to be reliable. The roller issue was solved by 2013.

Other matters are just general maintenance and care by the owner.

As a new owner of a Stelvio (my 23rd bike) I am actually impressed with the lack of issues. Before you jump to conclusions I would suggest you ride one and decide for yourself. Any fault can be corrected, and every motorcycle has some faults. The Stelvio is a fantastic bike and I am delighted that I got one.

2013 = just about perfect!  Great suspension and brakes.  Lots of torque.  Comfortable seating and other ergonomics.  Designed to haul a bunch of stuff...pack those bags full and ride.  Maintenance is simple.  With about 100 RWHP you can get into as much trouble as you choose.

Great ride.  Who's gonna tell him about the auxiliary lights... Lee, you're on!

OK, we missed that reminder - ALL Stelvio NTX models of ANY year including brand new ones need the fuse fix or some other form of attention to prevent the auxiliary lights from having the ability to blow the main fuse. You can keep the lights that are there and add fusing, or replace the lights with ones not prone to rubbing their wiring till it shorts. Either fix is half the job; if you fuse the stock lights, you should still protect the wiring from wear in the back of the light units, and if you replace the lights, you should still add fusing to separate this auxiliary circuit from the bike's mains.

As for the running lights, I actually installed the in line fuse just this afternoon on the left side, and it was easy. It is made to be just plugged in. I am putting on the European turn signals and mirrors:  http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=61346
As for the light housing, I coated the inside of the housing with plasti dip to bombproof the terminals. I think that will permanently fix the situation.
