A new affair
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:08:20 AM »
Looking at US Ebay is a dangerous thing for me. I see stupidly cheap bikes all the time, but mostly I haven't got the funds to buy so the window shopping is frustrating.
But the missus said it was ok the other day and then I spotted this little beauty and snagged her.

So we're on the path to get  this great machine over to Oz. It's very exciting because I had the Cali3 for so long , doing over 100,000K's on her, but this one will be so much more fun I'm thinking.
It does compliment my Ambo that I ride now, and will be my spare bike for any Guzzisti who care to visit us down in sunny Nimbin.

It's sad but good for me that these bikes are so undervalued these days.
I'm not sure if this bike will leave my door wearing the same clothing since these were definitely sporty in the tonti tradition.
But reading the old reviews on these bikes has been a thrill.
Can any of you who run these machines give me any stories or updates or reviews on how good these babies really are?

I bought one identical to that although my seat was a little different, rode it back from Denver to Vancouver

Ask the seller if they have the original pipes, I can't for the life of me understand why you would take those off, must have been a Harley guy.
A 98 with the tubeless rims, thats a great Plus, probably has the larger P8 ECU
Before you do any serious miles replace the wheel bearings, they are as cheap as chips but just regular 2RS, in fact they are so cheap you could justify changing them out each tire change.
The EV is a great cruiser, enjoy.

Hi Luthier,

The V11s are fantastic bikes. I'm on my second '98 (after I stupidly sold the first one).
As I'm sure you already know, they don't like to be lugged. Mine runs best at around 4k rpm. I rarely get to use 5th gear. Mine have both got better mpg at higher rpms when I'm blasting around at 5500 rpm all day. The charging system can be a little flaky. I'm on my second voltage regulator on my new bike. This one connects directly to the negative terminal on the battery so I'm hoping for better results. Every now and then I hook up my multimeter to the battery tender terminals and put it on my tankbag so I can monitor the charging. Peace of mind and all that.
I'm running BT45s on it and am very happy with the handling.

Cheers and congratulations!

I love mine. Thought about getting rid of it more than once (most recently because of the electrical issues I had) but knew that I would miss touring on it. If I remember correctly, there was a recall for loose spokes on the rear wheel or something with the rear wheel. Hopefully at this point in this ones life that has been taken care of. Also, the rear turn signals will fall off eventually. Great "going down the road" motorcycle.
