2008 Norge heat without fairing lowers? How to remedy?
« on: August 04, 2017, 02:27:58 AM »
My 2008 Norge roasts my legs with heat when the temp is 70 degrees and higher. Can I replace the muffler without a remap? I like the bike, but the heat is real, thanx.

If you keep things simple and change the silencer with a baffled item then there is no need for a remap although to do so using Guzzidiag is easy enough.

The muffler isn't the source of the heat directed at your legs. Personally, I have always thought that the location of the oil cooler is the source of the heat which is why the later models relocated the oil cooler near the base of the engine. The heat is funneled over the engine and the fairing dumps the heat on the rider. The 8V models don't have this problem or so I'm told.

I have removed the lower fairings but that didn't solve the problem.

I was getting what I thought was excessive heat with my 06' Breva, almost unbearable above 85 especially with my right knee. Guzzisteve did a tune and almost all the heat is gone. I think some heat is too be expected with the summers here.

I have been told that tuning, etc. helps but I have installed a new map, etc., but it is still hot in the summer. I'm going to remove the upper part of the fairing with the turn signals and see if that makes a difference and if it does then I'm going to purchase some used fairings and cut them down and somehow keep the turn signals. Then re-install the stock fairings for the winter.

If the heat bothered me I'd rap the headpipes w/exh tape, cheap fix.

It's actually "not as hot" with the lowers installed

2V puts off less heat than the 4V, which has heat deflectors as well.

If you're wearing thin jeans and not riding pants or boots or your sitting too close to the heads, it will roast you a bit...but it's definitely not supposed to be intolerable.

Is it properly tuned, running too rich or lean...that may have something to do with the tune/heat situation.

I tried various combinations of fairing and the complete assembly works best. It's like they knew when they designed it...........
I always wear Sidi hard leather boots that come up pretty high and this also helps a lot. I'm not saying that it won't get hot but if you are on the move the Norge isn't bad. Around town in the stop and go it is not a lot of fun in the summer. I ride it more in the winter to tell the truth.
As far as an improvement that will help with that and a few other quibbles, get a Beetle map for the fuel. It made a tremendous difference on mine. I turned off the Lambda sensors and it runs like a dream. Cooler too!
