2003 Stone aftermarket speedometer ?
« on: August 07, 2017, 06:56:59 PM »
Any speedo suggestions?
The stock clock is no longer available. Which electronic one do you suggest?
I am about to order an Acewell and thought there might be some fresh ideas on this one.

speedhut makes a nice one driven by gps for accuracy.  I don't have one but will.  Some on this group have them and they may comment about the face fonts and bezel sizes.

Take a look at Speed Hut. http://www.speedhut.com/

The gauge can be customized to suite your taste. They are a hare bigger than the original, but they do fit without the gasket. Also, there are GPS versions, so you don't need adapters. Upon request, they will add sealant to the glass to make a better seal for the elephants. You can eve add custom text to the face of the gauge.

Go play on the site. You'll be impressed.

I have a new speedometer for an '03 Stone.
I ordered it as a replacement for my '02 Stone. Sat on my shelf for a few months before I discovered that I had been sent the wrong one - by then I felt that it wasn't right to try and return a special ordered part
It's never been mounted - new.
If you want an original and save a few bucks - PM me and I'll send pics.

I'm very happy with my Speedhuts
I went with the pulse input speedo and made a simple reed switch pulser to go in where the old cable came from the gearbox.

Make sure you ask for the reset button that plugs into the rear not through the glass front, it comes with a short cable allowing you to mount it anywhere e.g. where the original reset knob was.
If you buy a tach the button is only used once for initial setup.
Consider adding a tach to the speedo, if the bike doesn't have one.
Ask them to set the odometer to match the broken one.

Most of the pictures have been held for ransom by Photobucket but you will see some good ones and lots of tips.

Thanks to Walt for the NOS clock. Based on my past experience with these units I made a small opening in the case to allow adding an additional dab of grease to the odometer worm gear. Ask me in 10K how that works!
Happily counting the miles again☺
