Fall ride to NC

I'm planning on riding the Skyline and Blue Ridge on the 21-22 of Sept.
1person is returning North to ride the dragon, I am staying near Marion NC for the week.
Anyone interested, we will be tent camping unless it rains.
On the way, I have a small camper in Marion.

Terry, I may have to holler at you closer to the time you'll be down here. I'm in Winston Salem, and am slowly beginning to look at property in the Marion/Morganton area, as a possible relocation spot come next Spring or Summer. Maybe we could hook up and ride the area a bit.

Thats two long days, esp with the insane slow pace you have to keep on skyline. Have you considered riding rural VA instead of skyline and then catching the BRP at it's northermost point?

Where are you starting from? Maybe a good route is available to hit the BRP.

The BRP sort of depends on how you approach it.   

It's long been a tradition for some folks to eat breakfast early at the southern end, ride north all day, and have dinner at the northern end.

If you average a bit over 50 MPH (which you can normally do without getting hit with the $500 Federal ticket for exceeding the 45 MPH limit) and just make quick stops for gas and a bite, it's doable from 7 AM to 6 PM.

Heck, when someone does a SS1000 or a BB1500, they're riding a lot farther and faster than that!

It sounds a little early, but the peepers might be out.

Unless you're just wanting to ride the Parkway, I would get on about Roanoke. Take 220 to the BRP and head south.

Terry, we need to hook up. I live in winston Salem Nc and love ridding the parkway. In fact , I just did a trip from hillsville va to Cherokee. Pm me sometimes and maybe we can hook up on a ride. You would be welcome to start at my place, I'd put you up for the nite and the parkway is 1 hour from my place.

Yep, but on an Eldorado at 45-50 mph, the BRP is spectacular without being exhausting.

Didn't sound like that to me ... looks like only one guy suggested paralleling the BRP because of the speed limits?   Nothing wrong with the "dissenting opinion".   Me, I pick the BRP when I can, unless fog runs me off of it onto the flatlands ....

only ridden the BRP 1x but I enjoyed every minute of it. Beautiful part of our country. Like Jr. Brown says, "if you wanna race get on the race track. If you try to run away I'm gonna bring 'ya back"

I love riding on the parkway and have no problem with the speed limit...  I generally ride it 50-55mph and it's tons of fun. Best section is south of Asheville from the cross point of NC-215 to the southern end.


Skyline Dr however has a 35mph speed limit and 10x more speed enforcement.. so I avoid it

That would be fine with me because I'd just ride the Indian.
