Along those lines I never understood why the idiot weather people have to stand out there and tell me it's windy, stormy, hurricaning, etc. Put up a camera and narrate from inside the building. I can well see the trees bending , signs rocking, and the sheets of water all by myself.

Do we really need them to tell us it's windy and raining?
It's their 15 minutes of fame.

Give 'em a drysuit and a full-face mask with internal mic, like they use on the diving shows. Wind pressure at 100 mph can't be any worse than water pressure at 100 feet!

You need to understand , real meteorologists are scientists and have a strong adventurous streak . Would you be interested in motorcycle riding if it involved sitting inside a room surrounded by glass and watching a video screen ? We have some of the best meteorologists right here in Oklahoma , they want to "experience" weather , not simply watch it .

We were talking about hurricanes just now, and my Marine son was telling me about how the Marines on Okinawa disport themselves during a typhoon. They have to stay on the island anyhow, and the barracks and squad bays are built pretty strong, so they have Typhoon Parties involved mass quantities of beer ...
... and two activities are traditional, not to say required. One is to make yourself into a Flying Squirrel with a tarp, and leap out of a third floor window with the goal of landing on your feet; the other is to be Spiderman, and crawl straight up a windward wall to the third floor using just the wind pressure to hold you against the wall.
The casualty rates are probably high but unreported .....
