Today, I test rode a new '17 V7III Stone and a '16 V7II Special with 1400 miles on it.
I didn't notice any difference in ride performance between the two bikes but not having the tach on the stone had me pegging the gears and it almost seemed like the '17 has closer ratio gears than the '16, but maybe having the tach just helped me to know shifting was coming up.
I don't know why Moto Guzzi couldn't have made the RPMs one of the modes in the single instrument.
I do like the double walled pipes on the VIII.
The seat on the stone made it feel like the riding position on the '17 was smaller than the '16.
If I was looking for a bike to customize and make my own, the lower price of the stone makes it appealing, but I think I like the specials better. The dealer didn't having any '17 specials but does have an Anniversary on the floor.
