 I just got back from a great 3 day ride in the mountains of NC, VA, W.VA, and part of KY. 18 bikes started and 16 finished, about 600 miles of curves, twisting switchbacks and mountain ghost towns. The group consisted of hondas, Harley's, BMW, and one Guzzy. We had one serious mishap. An experienced 12 year veteran motor cop got two hot coming into a curve on the " back of the dragon " ride and totaled his 2016 Electra glide, bruised him up a bit but he's ok. He locked his back wheel trying to correct a too hot of entry into the curve and that's all she wrote! Goes to show, it can happen to any of us. Be safe my friends.

That is some great riding out that way! 600 miles sounds like a perfect weekend!

Sounds like you had a good time. I love riding that entire area, it has some of the best motorcycle roads in the country. I usually try to make it there as often as I can, unfortunately work prevented me from making it this year. The number of good twisty roads are limitless, and there are many roads that are just as good if not better than Deals Gap for the obvious reasons. One of my favorites is Wayah Road that skirts through the Nantahala National Forest, a beautiful twisty scenic road that follows the river. I took my 2013 Bonneville there in 2014, and the 2013 Trophy there in 2015. You really need at least a week to cover the region thoroughly.

Next time you get in the area take the old US 52 route to highway 16. Ride 16 through those, now mostly ghost towns like bluefield, War, iegar, Welch W.VA. The roads are great and the poor towns makes one realize how great it is to live where there are still jobs. I felt at times that I had been zapped to a third world country, pitiful:(
