Old Goose
« on: September 24, 2017, 09:03:21 AM »

This weekend the Vincent Nationals was held at one of the local casino's.  So the other half and I drove out to ck the British iron.
About 20 units... mostly riders.. which I prefer to trailer queens. But, set aside, was this old Goose.. lic/plate said 1937. No one was around to give me the story about the bike.. it look'd much like the one I had back in the day.

I wrote to the Guzzi-Singles forum.  One of the members responded providing a name for Greg McBride in Southern California.  Apparently owns this Guzzi as well as a Vincent.  I did a Google for that name with Guzzi and found this image.  That's clearly the bike you photographed.  So, there you go!

There's a nice picture of a friends 'similar' 500cc single on pg. 31, Mick Walkers "Moto Guzzi-Engineering Brilliance from the Shores of Lake Como". A paper back book w/an acid green cover and yellow 1100 Sport ridden on a track. Owner Peter Zucher (sans umlaut), was a business colleague, in Switzerland. High bars? Peter is well over 6' tall. 'Long haul' fuel tank for the obvious.  R3~

It is awesome!  It is very similar to mine, but has the F-head engine so it is probably a GTS.  A friend saw the same bike at the Quail motorcycle show.

I'd love to see more pics if it if you have them.

I am currently reading an excellent book (just out published 2017) "The Complete Book of Moto Guzzi" by Ian Falloon and it would appear that it is a circa 1937 GTS. The V and GTV had OHV engines but were not as reliable and the "S" with the opposed valve engine was actually more popular. The "V" was a rigid while the others were swingarm with friction dampers.
