There may be arguments in Italian in the garage...
« on: September 25, 2017, 12:35:21 AM »
Well, the deed is done . as of this evening, Giovanni Caboto rests alongside Niccolo Machiavelli in the garage. The 8v Stelvio and the 2v Norge will have to come to some understanding that allows them to live in peace.

Caboto is the Italian who (while working for the Brits) actually reached mainland North America - something his countryman (working for the Spanish) had failed to do before that point. Kinda makes you wonder what would have happened if Italy hadn't been a bunch of petty dukes and princes fighting each other, and had their act together enough to use the skills and drive of all the people that left the country to work for the competition.

Of course, if the Italians had their act together, Machiavelli would never have had the material needed to write The Prince and other works - notably written just about the same time as Caboto's discoveries were beginning to have an impact.

The Norge is named Niccolo because he counsels me in the wise use of power. The Stelvio is Caboto because he will explore the Americas when those who have gone before just tasted the edges...

The Norge was a poster boy for high mile CARC bikes.  Is it 80K you have on it?
Time to give it a little rest.

80K was a little while ago - the Norge now has 130,000+. I will now have the chance to do some long-awaited major maintenance that will take the Norge off the road for a bit, things like the clutch (which is still the original factory unit). Since efforts like that will test the edge of my mechanical skills, I didn't want to do it while the Norge was my only transportation.

I look forward to hitting 250,000 on the Norge in a few years time, and to hopefully close in on it with the Stelvio.

And of course, to picking up a nice used Griso for bopping around town and being rude.

What year Griso are you looking for?  Friend of mine here in Houston has a 2015 Black/Red with about 700 miles on it...too much bike for him...

Comes with racks and I think a tank bag and a rear bag (Guzzi OEM).

Let me know your budget for a Griso and I'll see if that's in line with what he's looking for.

Thanks - but I won't be ready till sometime between December and March. The Stelvio depleted the account used for "things not absolutely necessary"

Your friend's bike is right in line with my plans, though. I'll be looking at 2013 and newer, not too worried about mileage but less is always nice. I'll post here when I'm ready to start shopping.
