Questions about "new" 2007 Norge.

Just purchased a 2007 Norge advertised on this forum; bike had only 2,300 miles on it; runs, rides, and looks good for a 10 year old bike. It was built very late in the model year (June 2007), so I am not concerned about oil pump failure.

The left side lower has a hole, rubber plug, and dipstick exactly like my 2009 Norge (RIP) had. Did the late 2007's come like that from the factory?

The suspension looks and feels the same as it did on my 2009. Could it also be possible that the late 2007's came with the stronger shock spring? How could I determine if the 2007 shock is indeed the same as the ones on later models? Haven't tried riding fully loaded with wife on back yet, maybe then I will notice a difference.

The bike actually came with two top cases (one is slightly abraded on top); I have heard that some 2007's had problems with the MG top case mount. If that is true, how could I tell if mine has the potential problem?

So far I have: changed all 3 oils and hydraulic fluids, polished entire bike. Later today will install new battery; tomorrow check valve clearance.

Tried to set clock, but when I press mode button for very long time the menu does not appear. The mode button does work to reset the trip meter.

By the way, if those are original tires with such low miles, which I'd imagine they probably are, I'd highly recommend replacing them quickly with some fresh sticky rubber,  or you won't get much grip, and that could make for an uncomfortable start to owning a beautiful ride...(see the story of the Porsche Spyder accident cause for an extreme case of "old tire failure").

Not sure how to tell on the shock...unless there is some sort of serial # on it to match to a batch production.  The stock shock is decent for solo riding, but even when on its best setting, I found that riding 2 up would mean I'd be scraping the center stand on nice some turns.  Flipped it out for a Wilbers and made a world of difference, along with putting some HyperPro springs up front too to balance the bike out.

Thanks for the SI kit; had trouble getting it started yesterday. Will get new tires very soon. Will probably upgrade suspension, but will decide after I put some miles on the bike with wife on back; together we weigh about 270 lbs, so maybe the stock suspension will work for us.

Many, many owners, and even some dealers, modified the oil access panel using a kit that the company provided, including all the parts and a printed template for cutting the access hole.  It's possible the job was done as the factory but it wouldn't surprise me to see any 2007 already have that stuff in place.

The top case design is obvious - the older design that tended to release itself was visibly different in design from the later one that eliminated (or at least reduced) that problem. The older angular design was more attractive, but it was disconcerting to suddenly lose your luggage. Another indication is the way the handle is located, with the newer rounded design using a fold-away handle.

Welcome back to the fold! Went riding with Kirby yesterday and told me you picked this bike up...good score! I have some nice maps that can be installed...just put on in the bike that Jon Parker bought from Enzo at Cadre and it is running well. You get the valves done and we can balance the throttle bodies and do the TPS reset and install a map....I think Kirby wants the newer map too for his Norge.

My red Norge was probably built in the same week as yours and it doesn't have the hole.
I fitted a Teo Lamers dipstick extension straight away.
The original mount plate for the top box was plastic but replaced with cast alloy on recall. I still reckon the standard mount is an abomination given that the bolt holes are about 50 mm apart and are about half the width of the square bars, the centre of mass of the loaded top box has a massive lever moment and is unacceptable. I'm sure they'll fatigue and break off.
I changed mine completely to place the mount under the centre of mass of the 'box.

The 2v Norge ...... IMHO, one of the finest-looking CARC bikes Guzzi produced.  It is a beautiful touring machine (or sport tourer, depending on your definition of the genre.)

Based on ITSec's info I am relieved about the topcase, as both of mine are the rounded versions with the fold-away handles; the mounting plate is plastic, but with a very large area.

I guess the first owner modified the left fairing lower; regardless, I'm happy to have ready access to an oil dipstick.

I did install the new Yuasa battery today; had trouble starting the bike yesterday, but it fired right up several times with the new battery. Will install the startus interruptus kit asap that PJPR01 is sending me (thanks Paul!).

Still having trouble with the Mode button.

Woody, thanks for the offer to install the new map; though I had planned to check the valves tomorrow, I decided to wait a few days until I get the bike registered and KY taxes paid. Should be done by the weekend. I'll stay in touch about it.

Locktited the centerstand today. My brother-in-law has agreed to weld an inch of steel to the foot of the sidestand; he did that for my 2009 Norge, and it really made it easier for this old short guy to get the bike upright.

Now to shop for tires, a ram mount, a throttlemeister, and a new windscreen.

Jon, are you saying we short guys 'might' have an issue getting the Norge (or in my case the 1200 Sport) off of the side stand?

Did you previously use the foot on the side stand as a template for the piece of steel you welded to the foot?

I must admit, there were a few times that I needed help getting my fully loaded Norge upright off the side stand, at least until I had the stand altered. My brother-in-law is a welder by profession; I just gave him the stand, asked for a one inch boost on the foot, and he delivered. He obviously used a grinder to help the added piece conform to the shape of the foot.

The original were developing hair line cracks and Guzzi was replacing them under warranty which is how I got mine on my 07.

The mode button can be weird and finicky; I found that a quick move to one side will work without holding it in the position.

I finally got the mode button to work by moving it slightly to the right while I was holding it down. Thanks for the suggestion.

   I always have to remind myself to do it that way as it doesn't seem logical.
