1000SP II Colour schemes?
« on: January 05, 2018, 09:25:11 PM »
Hello
I have only ever seen one SP II and it was a red and maroon one. Attached to a side car as well.

I am aware of a blue and silver (of metallic grey) also.

Did they come in any other factory colour schemes?

Cheers

As far as I know Guzzi only offered the SPII in two color combinations: the red and maroon you've mentioned and the Smoky Quartz and Dolomite Gray. The former was never officially imported into the US (I've never seen one in person), while the latter is the color scheme brought into the US.
It's possible the red and maroon was for the '84-'86 models and the latter color for the '87s, which could make sense given that SPIIs came over to the US only for the '87 model year.

Hi
Thanks for the responses. I was curious as there were some rather imaginative colour combinations on the California models through this period and whether any of them transferred through to the SP II.

Slopokes- I saw the red & maroon SP II with sidecar probably 25+ years ago in a workshop on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland.

Groover - back in your hole  we spell the Queen's English in Oz-trail-lee-ah, so colours it is

I have been thinking about a repaint to my SP NT for ages - it was the light metallic green and had been changed to Lemans red&black style. My indecisive is due to not really liking any SP or SP NT colours but I don't mind the red & maroon.

Maybe a Cali dual tone in the SP II style - not stock but kind of continuing to 'keep it in the family'

Cheers
Jason

Jason, it was a play on the II in the model name (as in 2 colors available), not a poke at the spelling of the word!

A couple of weeks ago I ran across this photo of what is titled an '83 SP. The paint scheme is one I've never seen before but I think it looks great!

Hi
D ennis, Thanks for the photo, looks quite smart. Here is a link to some more photos of that colour scheme
https://www.grouseguitars.com.au/guzzi/index.htm

I have trawled through SP and Cali photos on the web. Perhaps the colour scheme that I am leaning towards is the Cali III Full Fairing maroon & and olive/silver in this brochure (sounds yuck when you type this in  )

http://www.thisoldtractor.com/moto_guzzi_more_topics_brochure_-_moto_guzzi_california_iii_full_fairing.html

Would work In the SP NT or SP II style or is this just no accounting for taste on my part?

My SP was originally the light metallic green and to be honest it is a bit boring (but I have not seen one in this colour). When I bought it, the paint had already been changed to LM red/black.

Still very much welcome input as to the best SP colour/colours you have seen.

Cheers
Jason

Correct...just the two. But...I don't think and reds ever made it to the USA? As a one-year only, 1987 edition...here.
