new record cold for Baton Rouge
« on: January 17, 2018, 07:43:32 AM »
Well, we set a new record last night.  Broke the 1928 record of 19, we hit 17 last night.  Plus we have snow, not much, but some.

I have lived a lot of places that gets much colder, but geez its cold now.  Its like a demolition derby on the roads around here, looking at the local news.

Schools have been closed for 2 days, grocery stores are out of bread, milk, eggs, and basics.

I don't really understand the run on grocery stores, its south Louisiana, its not its gonna snow 8', or be below freezing for a week.  We get snow about once every 10 years, and it rarely gets below freezing.  when it does get below 32, its only at night and for a couple of hours.  Of course, this is the second time this winter we have snow.

It was the same here in St Tammany Parish, also. Despite running water through the night, my lines froze up during the night. Thank goodness for PEX piping materials...

Well on the one hand it's hard to feel too bad for you guys when we got down to 2ºF last night around here and some others to the north have been in negative numbers for a while. OTOH I know that you folks are not used to the cold and your cities and houses are not set up for this degree of cold.  Frozen pipes and drafty houses are a pain when it gets this cold.

All I can say is to stay warm and wait for the warmer weather this weekend.  :thumb:

We hit a new all time low of 6 here at the OLEO rANCH in east Texas.  The wood stove has been busy. We are not set up for cold with single payne windows with an R value of  less than one sic.

Me either.   Far as I can see, when it snows, everyone is at home making milk sandwiches .... I don't even know how to do that.

It's all screwed up. Southern California had all time record highs the other day. I can't fathom 20 degrees in Southern Louisianna.

it was 7 here this morning.  It was 15 when I drove to gym today.

Saturday it will be 65.  And could much hotter with a missile alert.  Could I mention Climate CHange too?  Maybe we can tweak Dusty?
