A source for Inexpensive Printer Inks
« on: February 15, 2018, 10:27:21 AM »
After many years of buying way overpriced ink cartridges for my various printers and trying to re-fill old ones with frustrating results, a friend told me about BLAKE INKS 1-800 939-1962. Over a year ago.  I ordered my first batch of inks for my Canon Printer.

Amazing and so inexpensive!!! Ordered the inks on Amazon Prime and 2 days later the arrived. Mine take separate color cartridges. THEY WORK and I got 10 different ink cartridges for $16!

I paid 50% of what ONE Canon cartridge cost... and I got 10 cartridges and 6 are XL size. Check it out if you have a printer and need ink.

Note: The photo doesn't show the complete set because I already used some out of it.

Check it out if you have a CANON printer and need ink.

H-P's got their printers coded so that it will reject any ink cartridge that's not one of theirs, or has been used and refilled ...

Yes. I would call Blake and ask them. I know they work perfect in my Canon printer.

I now spend only $16 per year on inks. I order one of these boxes of ink per year.

I use refilled cartridges on two of my HP printers and they work fine.  There is a bit of nonsense where their ink level monitor does't work but who cares, I can tell when it runs out as it won't print anymore.  Refilled (by a good company is a good idea in most cases.  After all printer ink is a lot more expensive than gasoline.

Lexmark does that crap too, IIRC, they were the first.
This is definitely a glaring admission by the printer companies that ink cartridges are way too expensive.

I got rid of my last inkjet printer about 10 years ago.   They cost too much to use, and for as often as I actually needed color, the damned thing would have clogged or dried out nozzles in the cartridges before I'd use it again, necessitating early replacement of them.

Since 95% of my printing needs can be satisfied by a black and white printer, I bought a used HP Laserjet 1200 off ebay for like $40 (Guzzi content), and another $40 for a toner cartridge.    It has served us quite well for like 10 years.     The per-page cost of operation is like 1/10 of in inkjet printer.

The occasional need for color printing has unfortunately come up for our daughter's school projects.  Running to Staples or another place like that for printing is a PITA.   My wife got an online black Friday deal on a Canon multi-function color laser printer/scanner/copier for $259.   We haven't used it enough to need toner, but, based on my research it should be about 25% or less than the costs per page to operate than an ink jet.

Lord knows I've tried quite a few sources.   I don't care about the "full/not full" usage monitor, but for some, the printer itself won't accept the cartridges, and the ones it WILL accept, the printer driver refuses duty - I believe on later printers, HP's got us successfully blocked.

One of the printers I use refills in is about 2 years old, it was given to me because the lady said she couldn't get the refilled cartridges to work.  I don't know what was wrong because when I put in a refilled cartridge I recieved the message, told it to ignore and went ahead with the printing of test/alignment page.  Installed 2 sets of refilled since, still get the same messages, still ignore them and go on printing.  Other than that I have no idea, just what works at my house.

I tried getting them re-filled at Cartridge World and Costco ... sometimes they didn't work, sometimes they said the cartridge was shot. And the refilled ones were much way more expensive than $1.60 per cartridge I pay now and I order them on-line. Can't get much cheaper than that.

They sell you a printer for next to nothing, then gouge you on ink cost. Not anymore!

Yeah, it's the classic 'bait & switch' setup.  I had a HP until I found out they gouge you on the cost of ink refills.  Then I saw CVS said they would refill your cartridge for less.........until I found out only certain 1s.    So I  bought a Canon next and found out the cartridge in it had little ink volume.  :huh.  So now I don't print much stuff and only black.  Been getting my ink cartridges @ Walmart but now have a better place to try.  :thumb:

I make copies so infrequently that an inkjet dries up.  I went to a toner based printer and they last for years.

Lannis, the one I have here is a HP8C2C1D (D110 series).  The other one is at my daughters house and is a little older, the next time I'm over there I'll get the model # as my memory isn't to good any more. Age tends to do that!

:1:  I too was using my printer in spirts - would go months between use and when I really needed it the ink jets were clogged and I rarely was using color anyway...  went with a all-in-one wifi laser printer and life is great!  copies are fast and can print from my phone of what have you.  Off brand toner cartridges are cheap and last me forever...

Ever onward...

Uncle, what color laser did you get? I have an old LJ4000 (B&W) that I might consider retiring if thwere is a reasonable cost color laser out there.

I have been using ink 4 less for years,

I tried to have my cartridges refilled locally, big mistake.

I have 3 different HP printers, an 11x17 format, a 36 inch wide plotter, and the wife uses a regular paper printer for her work.
much cheaper and always works,
