It's a curve bender . All kinda Guzzi content .
« on: February 27, 2018, 07:20:02 AM »
It is always kinda surprising to come across anyone who even knows what that funny looking motorbike you're riding is , let alone they might know something about it .

So yesterday while stopped at our local farm and ranch store two fellas wearing HD T shirts are walking past the old Jackal towards their rig which is a pick up horse trailer combo and I hear one of them say "now there is a curve bender" . Another gentleman sitting in a car had struck up a conversation just a minute before as I was dismounting , and attempting to be a good ambassador for motorbiking I was answering a few questions , so had to turn around to verify that the guy said what I thought he said . "Yep" he said , " I know about Guzzis , if ya wanna bend curves this is the motorcycle "  Both encounters made the trip worthwhile , even if the F&H store didn't have what I was looking for .

One evening the date and I were down to visit the Great Wall Of Smiley(Google it) to enjoy an evening smoke and cocktail while we watched the sundown, we were riding on my waffle case Ambo, drove in to my favorite spot and noticed that there were other people there viewing the site, so I blasted off down to the far end and parked. A little while later these people appeared and a nice lady with an Aussie accent says Noice Guzzi!, well I was kind of surprised that she knew what it was, as she likely did not get a real good look at it when I drove through, she heard it load and clear though! So I asked her how she knew it was a Guzzi, she claimed that friends had them back home, I replied that she was one of about 13 people in Saskatchewan who knew what a Guzzi is.  DonG

About three weeks ago on my Top O' The South trip I stayed in a backpackers in Westport. Kinda isolated town between here and there on the West Coast. It was really hot so I just had my Guzzi T shirt on under my riding jacket. Took the jacket off to go in and register and the lady running the place (about 50 as a guess) lit up and said "OOOOH, Moto Guzzi". Her partner has a Triumph Rocket and relatives have Guzzis. I must admit to being very surprised.

She made sure the bike was under lock and key for the night and was most helpful. Organised some CRC as the sides tand had started to jamb up with all the crap flung up from all the road works, and we all know about sticky side stands and switches don't we.

Straightening the curves? Flattening the hills?  The sound of 'dukes of hazzard' comes to mind.

Hmmmm, new t-shirt idea? "Moto Guzzi. Straightening curves since 1921."

My Cal Touring has received more attention from 50+ year old Harley riders than I ever would have imagined.  I don't think I've ever parked near a group of Harley riders without at least one of them complimenting the bike and mentioning the 70's police bikes or appearance of the California.  I've also ridden with quite a few and walking away from them in the mountains has elicited a chuckling response and acknowledgement that it was expected each time.  That's probably the most surprising aspect of buying the bike.
