Liqui-Moly oil additives, any experiences ?
« on: March 08, 2018, 02:56:59 PM »
Hello Folks, I have been spending some time on a Honda CR-V forum, since I recently bought a nice 2012 for our family car. There is alot of discussion of noise made on cold startup, by the variable valve timing actuator (VTC) . Many of the honda 2.4 liter "K" blocks suffer from this malady, and replacing the VTC actuator only stops the noise for a while, many times returning. Its a rattling noise for about 2 -3 seconds, on cold mornings first start, until  the oil pressurises the vtc assembly. Some folks claim the noise has been eliminated by using the Liqui-Moly oil additive in a good quality oil like mobile 1. its also recommended to use WIX oil filters, and not Fram.At first I thought "Phooey, snake oil" but after reading a bit on the products which are made in Germany, and seem like good stuff, I thought I would ask here, before trying it out, if any of you folks have any experience , both good or bad, with Liqui-Moly products?
Thanks
Rick.

BTW: I bought this sweet CR-V from a fellow Guzzisti friend  , and WG  forum member, that gave me a great deal on the car!

BMW cars use Liqui Moly 10/60 and lots of Guzzi shops use it instead of the recommended brand, I would not hesitate using it.

I have a CR-V, I don't think it has the variable valve timing though, I think it's a 2007
It does have a loud rattle in the belt drive system at idle, I took it in to the Honda dealership and they said worn takeup pulley $350 later it's just the same, I concluded they had no clue what it was.

I will be watching this thread.
