Magni for sale in UK
« on: March 06, 2018, 05:58:46 AM »
Just seen this on The Bike Shed web site, a 1987 Magni for £15,000.00 Sterling.

Looks like a decent bike.

First term to come to mind for me would be “bastardized” the side covers look like they were made by a vo-tech school dropout.

Would have looked a little better if they painted it red to match the rest of the bike!!

Yup I clocked that one too

I'm the last one to talk about doing untold damage to a classic especially when it comes to Magnis.

But OMG what have they done to the poor thing?

The side panels look entirely home made, some of the Magnis I have seen have polished alloy side panels and I didn't like them. These look like they have been knocked up by the apprentice. If he  purchased the Sfida tank, fairing and seat unit why Oh Why not the side panels? The bike would be better without these panels entirely, IMHO that would not be pretty either but an improvement nonetheless.
Not a big fan of the frame color, although to be fair some of the Arturos were that sort of color though
What's with the tank breather going to the headstock nut? On the later bikes there is a frame stay there that bridges to either side of the fairing, to improve rigidity and stop flex. If that is not in place I reckon you will start to crack screens at an alarming rate. They are thin and very easily damaged (ask me how I know).
Indicators and tail light are not original (that I can talk)
The wheels are just awful

All that said it looks like a hotted engine and built by Raceco, so it will be right. If it were mine I'd be junking the alloy timing gears and installing steel, preferred choice, or just go back to the standard chain with a Valtec tensioner

It has the makings of a really, really nice bike, the frame and the forks look like the same as installed on the later Sfidas, although why they are sticking up so far in the headstock is mystery. Magni frame and Forcelli Italia forks are not normally set up so aggressively

It's probably worth 15k or a little less, when you consider the Magni parts and the hotted engine which was professionally built.

However it's not a Sfida and as such won't be worth as much.

What about this one if you have deep pockets (I want some of what the seller is smoking)

The thing about all of the round barrels is they are not Sfidas, not that bothers me a jot, but somebody might just purchase one of them thinking they are.

The Guzzi Magni thing started with the Arturo & Classico AFAIK and they were square barrels.

Magni did build some frames around the round barrel engine bikes but I believe they were one off specials built to request
