NGC - For those of you lusting after a Morini 3 1/2...
« on: March 10, 2018, 11:05:35 AM »
On the Facebook Moto Morini page:

Hello from Philadelphia, USA. Due to unfortunate events I am considering selling my 75 Strada. I have refurbished the bike over the last year and invested a lot of money and time. I’m looking for advice on the value. I hate to put it on eBay but may have to go that route.
Here are some of the work I’ve done.
- New genuine Borani shouldered rims, stainless spokes, vapor blasted hubs, Avon road rider tires.
Speedo and tach serviced and cleaned by Palo Alto.
New exhaust system with double seam mufflers direct from Italy.
Also from Italy the seat and ALL new rubber parts.
Very beautiful ,expensive, high quality paint along with chromed metal and enamel badges.
Rechromed headlight, front fender supports and both lever perches.
NOS rear fender.
NOS genuine CEV turn signals and custom made stainless signal stalks.
Frame paint touched up and all removable black parts powder coated.
The list keeps going .....
I also have all original English language shop manual, parts book, rare owners handbook and a fantastic original oversized showroom brochure featuring the blue Strada. Plus a Morini tool kit !
11,100 miles ridden by the original owner. Purchased new at a local Pennsylvania dealer. Full known history from 1975.
Included pics show the Morini featured center stage last week at one of the largest indoor shows in the US.
I know I’ll not recover all my investment. So few of these are sold in the US I don’t know what I can expect.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Send me a PM if you have a direct interest.
Thank you and sorry for the long post,
Rick Hand

Whats the market price?

Normally, that would be $1 more than the one exactly like it down the road sold for last week.

But as the owner says, there's not much to compare with, this bike in the US in this condition.

I like those bikes, I enjoy Charlie's reports on what it's like to ride, and if I didn't have a garage full, I'd be feeling around for an offer .... maybe Charlie or another multiple Morini owner can give us an idea!

That is one beautiful Morini. I worked at a shop in the early '80's that sold them. Very nice bikes.

It really is beautiful, but till the tunnel's finished I'll not be able to ride it home.

That bike is gorgeous! It looks like a real motorcycle should look.Anyone have any idea what its value would be?
Care to venture a guess?
How do they compare in value to a restored loop?
Or , are they more comparable to a nice ,old Monza?
I am guessing around 9-10K, but, then again, I dont know squat about Moto Morinis.

If it runs as nicely as it looks it is a bargain, frankly. Before I saw that it had sold I was going to show it to my wife who had a '78 Strada new , but really wanted a blue one.

Though tell me-the brochure of the blue looked like Robin's egg blue (the color of her scooter) but this and other Morinis are darker. Was there a different blue, or was it an artifact of the printing?

Is it really that good .... or is it simply collectible?  This is a little 350cc v twin, is it not?  Then again, what do I know about Italian bikes?  Unless I (or another potential buyer) was really into Moto Morinis, would I (or they) want to pursue this bike?  What is the attraction?

Back around 2008, I looked at a red one in Oakland, CA, not NEARLY as nice as this, not even close, and the guy wanted $8K...which I thought was way too much given the condition.

For $7,500, I think that guy got more than a fair deal, (IMHO) :thumb: :1:

Bob

They are a lot of fun to ride, pretty easy to fix. My wife put 35,000 miles on hers, had to do valves though I think that the mechanic had them set too tight.

The next owner had to replace the bushing type main bearing. That and 1 timing belt broken.

I know we lust for them now but they were not an exotic, they were a fun, modestly priced bike. The style is the big thing now, a sorted nice one like that would be worth the price to me were I in the market for a bike.

Sigh about 10 years ago I had that same bike in my garage it even ran,I sold it to a guy in New York. Why did I do that? I also had a Sport but it was a former race bike with no numbers on the frame so no way could I get it legal, a guy from the Mid west drove to Conn in a beat up old pick up with his daughter and infant grand daughter and bought that one from me. Said he needed a road trip.
