Jackal rotor
« on: March 18, 2018, 08:36:22 AM »
Looking at replacing my rear rotor on 2000 Jackal. Any tips or tricks on removing bolts without stripping out allen heads, they are locked on there tight.

Apply heat to the area around the bolt to melt the locktite , then use an impact driver .

I use an impact driver and tight fitting allen socket, if not tight I put some valve grinding paste on it.
Heat around the bolt to release the loctite they use also.

The Locktite needs to be softened with heat and highest rated I think is Red at 500 degrees. So I aim for that if at all unsure which one may have been used.  I like to use a high output propane torch right on the head of the bolt. Seems to be the fastest way with usually no damage to surrounding paint, surprisingly. And by that I mean, it still takes what seems a long time to heat up a small bolt to 500 degrees that is touching a large heat sink of a steel disc and aluminum wheel.  Then use the impact with the tight fitting allen socket as was mentioned.

Heat. Lots of heat to loosen the Loctite.
The proper sized tool. I found Craftsmen are a bit undersized.

Thank you again to all, a lot of heat really was the trick, got all of the six off without too much trouble. Always a treasure trove of information and tips.

I was told the bolts were a one time use. I can get them out without hurting them by useing propane torch and hand impact but I generally replace them anyway
