V7lV Wish List
« on: March 27, 2018, 07:37:25 AM »
Let's pretend that you are employed at Moto Guzzi as VP of new model design or as an engineer in charge of engine refinement. You are tasked with designing the new for 2020 V7lV line. What motor enhancements and style changes would you make?

Me? Off the top of my head, I would can the large, out sweeped  exhaust for something sleek and minimalist. I have very little mechanical skills so I would add hydraulic valve lifters that never would need adjustment.
I can envision a model similar to Honda's old GL650. I would call it the V7lV Day Tripper.

Now it's your turn.

In addition to the hydraulic lifters I'd add two more valves per cylinder and name it the V7 Bomba a mano.

Lowered headlight, smaller gauges., LEDs all around.

Smaller, sleeker lighting in general.

Shorter, tighter pipes, tucked in a bit better.

The valve adjustment on the V7 is the easiest thing I've ever had to do on a motorcycle, and I'm including "washing the bike" in that list of things. Can't see any need for anything done there.

I'd maybe move some of the filler and level-check holes for the transmission, that's a bit of a pain in the ass.

Tubeless spoked rims, and a 19" front wheel.

Slipper clutch, and a refined oil blow-by system away from the air filter box.

An odometer that goes past 199,999. A metal headlight bucket. Cush rubber that don't fall out so easily. A little more space under the seat for an accessory fuse box. I'd prefer a target idle of 1100 rpm rather than 1370.

I love the idea of a lighter, more streamlined bike with a slipper clutch, bright LED lighting, 29" seat height with more room underneath, tubeless spoked rims, and a gas gauge for giggles.

But who needs a gas gauge?! Just fill up when the light comes on...

OK, so, how 'bout a fuel light that comes on with 40 miles to go, instead of 85.

Beyond that, I'd like to see:
850cc motor from the V9 in Stone and Special, and a Racer or Nuovu LeMans with the 4-valve 85 HP motor from the forthcoming V85 ADV bike, and dual disc brakes up front.

Also, LED headlight and tail light, and better stock suspension.
