Question to those few who have mounted a Centerstand onto a 1200 sport

Spring is here and after months of thinking about it I finally dragged my self out to the garage and began the business of mounting the Norge Centerstand onto my 2008 1200 Sport. It’s gone pretty well ( other than an o ring I found under the bike that I have no clue where it came from) but the thing I’m wondering is after the Centerstand is all bolted up there is nothing to stop it ( the arm) from hitting the exhaust pipe when it’s in the up position. I was warned that this might be a problem as the Norge has a little tab welded onto the exhaust but the sport lacks this. What did you guys do?

It's been so long since Tom and I installed the centerstand on my 1200 Sport, don't remember much about the operation.  Hell, mine may be riding on the exhaust for all I know.  But it has worked nicely for  over 7 years.  Wish I had good info for you.

My 2008 1200 Sport had a small metal bracket welded to the exhaust that the center stand comes up against. it also has a rubber bumper that has to be trimmed down if the exhaust is lowered to clear the Norge type bags. IIRC the bumper is normally about 3/4" and is cut down to 3/8".

My stock exhaust had the tab as well.

However my aftermarket can did not come equipped with this tab on the connector pipe. I ended up sending the pipe out to have a tab welded to it.

I agree with Darren. I mounted my center stand 1 year ago. The stand has the rubber knob that can be trimmed to get the center stand to rest higher up for more scraping clearance.  The bump stop is welded onto the 1200 Sport stock exhaust pipe. Love my center stand!!!

Oh yeah, just remembered. The stock exhaust is also lowered for the Norge type side cases. There is a small plate with holes in top and bottom added to the mounting that drops the can down a few inches. The instructions were to drill a new hole in the middle and use that hole. The can should still be an acceptable distance from the side case to not damage it, but also high enough to get sufficient lean clearance with the center stand to not be the first thing to scrape when leaned over.

Yeah too- I guess that it would've been helpful information to tell that my bike currently has a Staintune pipe on it (which I LOVE and sounds AWESOME). But- this is the pipe with no tab.
After reading the replies I went out to the garage this morning and dug out the stocker. Sure enough, the stock pipe has the tab you need to be able to run the center stand with no modifications. I suppose when I put the bike back together I will mount the giant stock pipe and think about taking the ST to a welder.
Also, the tip about altering the lowering plate is a great one- I hadn't heard that before.
