Is my Griso Termignoni muffler going to need repacking?
« on: April 06, 2018, 02:25:14 PM »
I've been repressing this thought for some time, but here it is.

Is my $700 or so Termignoni actually glass packed, and therefore in need of repacking some day?

These kinds of thoughts didn't occur to me in the heat of the new bike passion I was experiencing when I bought the thing.

Never had to yet. My guess is that the cat will need work before the packing.

You're a prince, Harry.

I'll try to hang on just a little bit longer.

I think I'm hearing that this is a glass-packed job, but a good one.

All mufflers that have  a see through view are glass packed. The material differs a bit from make to make. And it blows out over miles so you won't notice it. Until it is packed again.

Maybe. But I remember examining a diagram of a pass-through/see-through muffler that relied on baffles in the surrounding chamber. It made an impression on me for the sheer cleverness of the arrangement, and I remember expounding on it to someone later.

I recall the mid-1960's Triumph twin mufflers were see-through and had no provision for repacking. I had always thought they muffled only because of the steel baffles in the chamber. But I never sawed one apart.
