Any canoe gurus in the house?
« on: May 06, 2018, 06:13:14 PM »
I'm just trying to identify an old canoe I've inherited.

Aluminum, 15', flat bottom, formed side sponsons, four ribs, two seats, and three thwarts.

I originally thought it might be a Michicraft, or an Osagian... But small details are proving those two to be wrong.

If anyone here knows about such things, I'll post a pic or two. Otherwise, this thread can die an ignoble death.

Thanks.

Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

Yeah, it looks like a Grumman. They were well built canoes, very durable

Not Grumman. Seats and decks are wrong.

If it is Gruman the rivets will be flush.  Other brands the rivets will be rounded like humps.
If the one in the picture is a Gruman, it could be a white water model.  It looks like that is what it might be.
I had a 15 foot white water canoe  That I bought in about 69.  It had extra cross ribs and a double shoe keel, and yes the rivets were flush.
I also had a 19 foot model with a transom for an outboard and a mast for a sail.

fotoguzzi, what's the cymbal there for?  Does something fall on it on the hour or something like that?  :)

I'll get a pic taken tonight when I get home.

it's definitely not a Grumman. Never seen a Grumman with stretch-formed sponsons.

Michicraft have them... but the seats in mine don't look like Michicraft, plus I have forward and rear handholds in the bulkheads.

Osagian have the handholds... but again, the seats are wrong.

It makes music when the wind blows the waterfall off line onto it.
