Looking for Nick from NJ
« on: March 16, 2020, 09:57:04 AM »
Hi Everybody -----  I'm trying to locate a dear friend, Nick from NJ.  He's a good looking  older Italian guy.    After all the many years I've known him, I couldn't remember his last name.   Sure sign of getting old.

Nick ---  If you get this message, call Will at the Campground.  He's trying to get in contact with you.

Thanks Cam for getting in touch with Nick.    Some of you guys are just jealous.   I have to admit, there are quite a few of you older guys that are still good looking.

Shhh, don't say nothin' until I get that pair of "skinny jeans" Ken mentioned last year.   Long way to go for THAT, I can tell you.

Although I'm not sure that a gruff "Yeh look good in them jeans, boy!" is anything I want to hear anytime soon!   :embarrassed:

I've wondered what Lannis' last name could be. Good to know. Kinda poetic.
Years ago there was a popular movie star with the same initials.  R3~

Years ago there was a popular movie star with the same initials.  R3~

My great-grandpa Jesse Asbury ("Berry") Durrence owned a sawmill/gristmill in Tattnall County, Georgia 100+ years ago.   His wife Eva was pregnant in 1914 with a son.

My grandma was there and told me the story.   A peddler with a mule cart came through the area.   One of the things he was selling was a big book, that was an almanac, Bible, How To Doctor Your Horse, and (among a dozen other things) "10,000 Names for your Baby".   Berry and Eva didn't have any names picked out yet, so they chose "Lannis" from the book.   Little Lannis Lewis Durrence was soon born, and later became my father's favorite uncle, who then named ME after his uncle.

I asked my grandma if that book were still around, but she said no, her father sold out the mill and everything in 1922 and moved to Charlotte, NC and became a building contractor, so no book.

This genealogy stuff is fascinating; so far, I've found 5 of my 3-times-great grandfathers in the CSA army; one was killed at The Wilderness ...
