Ignition switch base pn
« on: May 19, 2018, 10:47:23 AM »
I found the part number for the contact plate in the ignition switch, I was looking at a Bassa parts book and it suddenly appeared before me, I had looked in vain previously. its on page G14, index 36, nomenclature starter switch, pn 01 78 25 00
I think that is the repair part on the switch base. its for a '99 but I have the suspicion that it'll be the same for models around that time.

No link, it was in a genuine paper parts book.

Ok I found this, but it adds to the confusion as it is called switch, steering lock with the same pn that in my book it's called starter switch but I suspect it's the contact plate
Page 08, index 6. It makes it look like it's the lock, a sane man wouldn't think it's the switch base but I think it is

I see the key switch but no separate contact section.

That's what I mean, David, it is illustrated that way, but in a '99 Bassa parts book it is illustrated differently, with different nomenclature but the PN is the same. Im pretty sure that's what I had ordered from Eishes years ago and it was the contact plate. Is there a way you can order one and send it back if it is not the contact plate with pigtail attached?

I might take another try at fixing it.  I got another idea.

If you can get it to make contact and do the fix I suggester it will last.

BTW i use 2 Amp reed switches on my Eldorado LED flashers, a single relay for H/L beam

I don't know what the draw would be without the headlight and starter solenoid but that's another option.

There are unused solder points on the contact plate.  They seem to be in pairs like the burned ones.  Perhaps I can get contact between two of those.

can you take them out and move them to the ruined ones? otherwise you'd have to explore where they are in relation to the key section. another option is to rob the contact plate from a donor bike

So I solved the basic burned switch part.  I discovered a pair of the rivet-looking contacts that had continuity with the switch on.  I had to rotate the contact plate 1/3 to make it.  Then I simply soldered in a pair of 18ga wires and shrink tubed them to fit.

The relay mod is another matter.  I don't know which they are since this is a small block.  The ones I'm finding don't look like big block ones, either.  Any clues to help me I'd them?

David,
According to Carl the 2008 uses a 5 pin with the headlight relay fed from the N/C start relay
The 2013 uses a 4 pin with the headlight relay powered from the switch but a different fuse.
Either one the relay/30 is powered up through the ignition switch whereas the injection relays on both variations are always powered, use the switch to identify the correct relay.
Hot wiring the 4 pin relays is simply a matter of running a new fused circuit directly from the battery.

If it turns out you have a 5 pin start relay the headlight will stay on when the key is Off.
There is a way around that but I will hold on that at the moment.

I have no idea where you find the relays on the bike, I don't have one to look at.

I found a service manual with The locations pictured.  As long as the relays are pinned by the normal numbers, all I need to do is to reroute pin 30 of the starter and headlight relays through a fuse to the battery post.
