I recently had the tank and sidecovers (and bags) repainted on my T3.

Simple enough to pull the emblems off the tank and side covers. Simple enough to replace the "850-T3" emblems on the side covers. Just drop the emblem mounting pins through the holes and push the small round spring collars on from the back side. Job done.

But I don't have a clue about the procedure for installing the "Moto-Guzzi" badge on the tank. The pin holes are blind and there doesn't appear to be anything on the small spring collars that would lock them in the blind holes. When I pulled the badges the collars stayed with the badge.

Help!

Interesting question, and one I am interested in hearing the answer to.

The collars go into the tank first, and the pins on the badge expand the collars when inserted. I've had my tank badges on and off multiple times.

Problem is the tank badge is very soft metal and the collars are hard as nails. Every time they're removed it scratches a bit of the badge tangs off.
If the badge is very loose, it's tangs are soft enough to squeeze into a slight elliptical shape, enough to provide interference with the collars; just be careful though.

They expand and lock in when the pin pushes in. Though, sometimes the hole is damaged by rust (making the hole larger) and it doesn't work right. I put a dab of silicon on one of my tank holes to lock it in a little better and it also helps it not vibrate if the locking clip doesn't pull it in tight enough.

I've given up on doing it right.  Either the badge is warped, the hole rotted, the post broke, or the nut wouldn't hold.  I now put a dab of glue at each post location and use blue masking tape until the glue dries.

Thanks for the great infirmation. I was fortunate in that the mount holes were correctly sized and undamaged. The clips I have on hand are in good shape. Installation was easy.

From my FWIW department: The badges are easily reformed. A bit of a tap on the badge with a soft face hammer with the badge resting on soft wood supports (or rag covered vise jaws) allows recontouring the badge to match the tank side. When installing the badge a bit of grease on the pins and in the clips make the badge install smoothly. (Of course I learned all this installing the second badge.

Thanks.
