Please don't take this the wrong way. What is the purpose of this crossbeam? Just appearance?

I have one on a motorcycle I just bought and am contemplating removing it.

It provides strength to the handlebar which is why it comes on the rough.  My purpose is to have a place to mount electronics and video camera.

I question whether the clamp-on mounting provides much strength, compared to the old welded design. Your intended use sounds good if you have found electronics mounts for the smaller diameter crossbar!

now if I can just loose 25 lbs my Dianese jacket will fit proper and if I loose all 50 lbs I need to drop I'll have room for a thin sweater (though not in the arms)

It absolutely does add strength.  All the high end Motocross bars I have looked at are clamp on cross bars.  I have an assortment of nylon and rubber spacers if needed.

Is $1103.80 the combined MSRP of the items or is that a discounted figure? There are several discount websites like partspitstop.com but they don't carry Moto Guzzi.
