Well the "Big Girl" is home
« on: June 29, 2018, 09:19:45 AM »
The California 1400 Touring I have been searching for is finally home and on the road.  First impressions, a little bulky at low speeds but what a great ride out on the open road.  The electronics are somewhat elaborate for an owner like me who is on same computer technology level as a 'Tit Mouse", but I leaning as I go.  Next on the agenda is getting the Service Wrench to disappear since I have changed the oil.  I installed Agostini mufflers yesterday and currently have the baffles (DB Killers) out but I believe they are going back in.  (I am not trying to keep up with my neighbor and his straight pipe Harley.)  The weight reduction alone between the stock pipes and Agostini's is well worth the effort.  Hopefully I will get a couple of long rides in shortly.  She is sitting next to Rocket 3 in the garage and I was hoping they may breed, wonder what the pups would look like......

Congrats on the bike.

Yeah, I had the DB killers out for about 6 hours. That was all I needed to know they were staying in. Probably not much in the grand scheme of things but you saved a total of 28 pounds with the change to the Ago's.

Congrats on a terrific bike.  To reset your service icon, with engine off but key on, use the mode toggle to menu,  and push, then scroll to service and push, you them must enter the service code 34534, by pushing the mode toggle on the right numbers as they appear. it will count through from 1 to 9 on each blank. when you have entered 34534 correctly scroll to reset service and push, you then have a yes or no choice to confirm to reset, scroll to yes and push.  Wrench icon should now be reset. If you mess up you can just go back to menu and try again. Good luck the more miles you get on the 14 the more you'll like it. :thumb:

The first time I rode my 2015 1400 tourer it also felt a little clumsy however after you've ridden it a while you will find its like a gyro scope and feels like it actually keeps itself upright. I know it's hard to believe but just wait. I can ride this bike in a circle with feet on the boards within two parking spaces.

I like the fan in the window. It must be for static rides when the weather sucks?

Beautiful bike.

The 1400 is a bike I would like to own, but have been put off by weight.

What do you think of the weight?

Once you get some seat time in o the Touring I would love to hear a comparison of the Rocket III and 1400 Touring. The Rocket III was on my list but after sitting on one it just seemed TOO big. I ended up with a 2014 Touring and love it. Enjoy!

It's a hundred pounds lighter than my Calvin was but the weight is much lower center of gravity. It's totallybeasy to pull up to a complete stop then just put one foot down. Feels almost like it has a gyro system built in that keeps it upright. Now that being said I'm sure if you get it off balance you might as well just let her lay down easly as possible;)

Is this a typo? The EV's were listed as 552 pounds. I would imagine the Cal Vin is very close to that. The 1400 weigh in at 700 pounds give or take, depending on which model.

I am a computer Guru, the little wrench is gone and I tried the Veloce Map today.  Damn, what a difference, I like it.  I also bolted on my vanity plate.  Nope it doesn't mean "Killer Whale", I enjoy making folks think.......

I can't speak for the Cali but the R3 is a total blast and one should NEVER turn down an opportunity to ride one.
I put 14000 mile on a 2008 R3 in one riding season and loved every minute of it.  That bike is gone but I'd love another someday.  I'd also like an Elderado!
