side cover ID, or Orange Guzzi, are you out there?
« on: July 31, 2018, 04:30:08 PM »
So, not having a fully developed knowledge of the different Guzzi variations [yet], I'm having trouble identifying the side covers on Orange Guzzi's "Bolt-on LeMans":

I tried to track him down here, but his posts list him as "guest" & don't give me the option of a PM or even searching his posts.

Anyway, the side covers are interesting as a middle ground between the longish, blocky LeMans or T-3 type & the smaller triangular V7 Sport type.  Google Image search wasn't much help either, but that was probably input error, as I wasn't sure what to search for.  Maybe they're not even Guzzi....

So, if anyone [including, or especially, Orange Guzzi] could tell me what those covers are offa, I'd appreciate it.

Ah, so it is.  Must be the paint, & the fact that they seem to be mounted higher, that makes them look so different.  And having toolboxes behind them is a bonus!

Thank you!

The side covers are 850-t with the tool box removed, hinge removed lock removed, lock hole filled in, black tape around grills.  Mounted to match the triangle of the three pieces of frame tubing.  I made a tab and spot welded to the back edge and used the plastic inner fender mounting tap to hold the back on.  I drilled a hole in the front and put a tinnerman clip nut over a mounting tap on the front down tube with a screw.

Rear fender is a Jackal fender that has been cut off in the back and the side trimmed.

Hey, thanks John - was hoping you might show up here.

Since you're here - did the toolboxes have to go away to make room for electric stuff?  I see your master cylinder is already outside, & you've got K&N's or similar...  The black & the repositioning really changes the look of those side covers.  I like the fender too, just enough off to change the look without losing too much protection.

And speaking of protection, is that a Breva fairing?  Do you get decent protection with it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I like what you've done, & I'm compiling ideas for down the road....

Thanks again!

The tool boxes had to go.  Not enough room for the fuel pump, ignition control module, fuse/relay holder, large battery, power commander and two tool boxes.  It took some sheet metal repair to clean them up.  I removed the oem fuel filter, relocated the fuel pump under the tank and removed 5 feet of hose from under the seat and tank.

The fairing is a discontinued GIVI A750 or some number like that and has been discontinued.  It is similar to the fairing that was used on the California Titanium.

The bike has parts from 17 different model's of Moto Guzzi's from 1974 through 2011.  The picture You posted compared to the two I posted are different.  I added the seat grab rail, changed the steel rims to aluminum.  Along with other changes that are not visible.  The biggest performance change was replacing the stock clutch assembly with a RAM clutch.  The engine runs much smoother, shifts better, rev's quicker and 5 gear is usable at lower rpm's.

Well, they certainly "cleaned up" well, & the bike overall is a shining example of the Guzzi "bitsa" in its highest form.  Most of us are at least aware of the interchangeable nature of the Tonti bikes (my own Cali II has a Mille motor, wheels from who knows what....), but you, sir, have taken the concept to another level!
