It's the aging population of motorcycle riders, potentially poor weather, @ a place where you're going to sleep on the ground, regardless.  Additionally it seems many people rather make decisions @ the last minute.
Are they holding out for better offers? Like perfect weather? to be determined a week or days before? It's easier to dismiss the event when unprepared? You already have your answer.

It this kind of thinking that diminishes the number of participants AND the number of volunteers to do the work.

Ahh,now I understand. As I don't spend much time  on the web latley I missed the posting by Mr. Peterson concerning the weather! Yup quite a few folks set up in the barns (thankfully, recently cleaned &fresh bedding in them)& a couple from Quebec suggested changing the rally to "Damp Yankees! Seems it's rained every time they head south.ohh well still a good time seemed to be had by all. Except for the novice who tented in a Swale @the bottom of a hill ! Seems his bilge pump was inadequate  :boozing:

Succinct, focused and glaring in truth.
My try @ a smaller version (less than 10?), at the same site, fell on deaf ears.
Perhaps it's too soon? The disappointment too great?
I guess you're still busy in October?  Good fortune,  R3~

I have a couple weekends available in October, and one will be used for the WV Rally.  I would love to come up in the fall.  November too cold?

OH it cleared beautifully sat afternoon, great weather. The weather service overplayed it as usual. What looked like a three day washout turned into a quick deluge and then it was over.

The northeast is so different. Everyone lives a 1/2 day away or less and can decide to go/no go at the last minute. It's hard to Rally Up! (TM) and endure a predicted three days of rain. Too many other priorities

Fantastic venue in my opinion to cover western mass and southern vt. I could spend more than a week base camping it right there and making a new trip everyday.

I definitely miss Noble View too,not only the best rally site I've seen I also hit the biggest door prise in 40 yrs. of rallying! Yup Noble View will probably stand as the gold standard. Oct. Is already pretty much booked. Quick note,Columbus day weekend ,if you're looking local the "lonesome weirdo"inter-planetary rally is @ Crown Point St. Park in NY. No fee,no food ,no organization as usual! :boozing:

I have been to Heath three times but didn't attend this time:

(1) I don't like the venue: Barns, field, primitive showers and bathroom.  No cover, no swimming, no pavilion to gather in.

(2) Still doing 5:30 A.M. bagpipes?  That sucked.

(3)  4-hour ride through a major front.  Buckets of rain, not a casual shower.

This was an easy miss.

I kinda miss Heath. I loved the pot luck BBQ they used to do on Friday, and how the BMW guys mostly watched from a distance drooling, or cautiously crept up to the table begging for treats.

But yes, that bag-piper had a death wish.

Though I can't say much after the last time I attended and my bud (with the Gilroy Indian) and I stayed up literally until dawn drinking around a small bonfire as one group after another brought us the beer they couldn't finish before leaving in the morning.  :embarrassed:   That was a LONG ride home the next day.... a LONG one...

Be kind, I'm still more of an outsider looking in at this point. But why are so many Guzzi events still camping events? Why not meet at places like Helen, GA and enjoy the areas beautiful scenery, vendors who can come and set up plus a variety of hotels and restaurants for accommodations.

Nothing stopping you from staying at a hotel, and eating at a restaurant.
Others can camp, tell stories around the camp fire.
Then everyone is happy
