Burgman 650 on the Trans-Labrador Highway (ngc)
« on: September 03, 2018, 09:50:02 AM »
Chris flew out to St. John's. I rode the Burgman out (3 long days), then we spent a couple of weeks cruising around having a great time.

It was too good an opportunity to miss so I took the long way back through Labrador. I was interested to see what had changed in the seven years since I rode it on my 72 Eldo. The answer? Quite a lot. Much more of it is paved, and all the good sections are either paved or being straightened preparatory to paving. Bloody road engineers. You shouldn't be able to get your bloody, road-clogging Winnebago everywhere.

Here's a few pics.

I did my own mini Iron Butt on the way home.

DAY 1: St. John’s to the ferry at St. Barbe: 579 miles, 11 hours

DAY 2: Ferry across the Straights of Belle Isle: 20 miles, 1hr 45 mins
Blanc Sablon to Happy Valley/Goose Bay: 385miles, 9.5 hours

DAY 3: Happy Valley / Goose Bay to Manic 5. 559 miles, 14 hours

DAY 4: Manic 5 to Home: 729 miles, 16 hours

If the riding times seem a bit long, you have to take into account the fairly lengthy sections of gravel riding. Don’t blame the scooter - it runs happily all day at 70mph.

Looks like a great trip and last four days quite tiring. This may explain why you just posted FIVE pictures and no videos from the two weeks trip. I really hope more is coming soon :thumb:

Thank you Nick for the link. Great picture, they brings back a lot of memories from the time I live in Lewisporte for couple of years.

It looks like we were heading the same route and direction at the same time. You to NL, Marek and I to Gaspe Peninsula, QC. It was great trip but didn't finish on a happy note, I busted my left ankle in Petit-Saguenay, Quebec. Last couple days of the trip , 1100 km, was not fun at all because once I arrived to Toronto and went to ER they diagnosed my ankle is broken. So as it stands right now I won't be riding for next 4 or 6 weeks.

Odd. I didn't overtake you on Quebec 20 East

Very sorry to hear about your ankle Janusz. Bike accident? Rogue kerb?

I'm not surprised at all, Marek and I, we were on California's and despite you great riding experience your chances to pass us on Burgman were very unrealistic

Accident but nothing to do with bike. Slipped on wet grass and landed on my left feet when walking at night to setup my camera for time-lapse shot.

Please explain meaning of 'Rogue kerb', tried Google and all I get are Nissan Rogue hits.

That's because I'm a lousy speller.  I meant rogue curb (a stone or concrete edging to a street or path..).

It's a weak play on words as curb also means: restrain or keep in check , so a curb that's gone rogue (and might jump out unexpectedly to cause you to twist your ankle) might need restraining.

Perhaps I've had too many  :boozing: :boozing: :boozing:
