Shocks for '98 EV

I know this has been discussed and I bet there is the right answer.

My '98 EV needs rear shocks.  The bike has 65k miles on it and the rear Metzler is cupped to death.  So Hagon, IKON, Progressive, which model and what length?

There HAS to be ONE sensible and economical (Guzzi content) choice?

I had Ikons on my EV. I was using Konis on previous bikes and was familiar with them. They had adjustable pre load and rebound damping. At the time Hagons only had pre load adjustment.
They were light years better than stock but that not saying much. MG Cycle did handle them, another plus.

The previous owner of my 2003 ev put showa air shocks on. He also included the originals which are hanging on a wall.
I have put over a thousand miles on it in the last month and have zero complaints.

got the cheap Ikons from MG and they are great.

well, a couple of questions about the OEM shocks.  I always thought the shocks were set on full stiff, they weren't.  I guess they sagged to the point of stiffness?  Anyway, my questions.

1)  are the stock shocks rebuildable?

2)  is there a way to adjust preload?  My shocks have chrome covers on them and the book only shows hydraulic "clicker" adjustment. 


Anyway, I am thinking heavier springs and perhaps a rebuild and I might be good to go.

I'm using the stripped down version of the Ikon's on my '98 EV and quite pleased as compared to the originals. Rebuild-able and choices of springs, 5 position rebound damping and at a decent price of around $350

Either Ikon is really killin' it or the OEM really, really suck.
