1977 850S?
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:17:48 AM »
Someone educate me on this bike. I actually don't recall ever seeing or hearing of the 850S. This seems like a good deal to me. If it said "LeMans" on it, it would bring 5X that amount.

The tank looks strange to me, pretty sure they were shaped like a LeMans. If that’s the real deal, you’ld better get it.

So you've heard of this model before?

T rear drive/drum brake? I've never heard of an 850S, either.. there may be a reason for that.

I've seen some on euro guzzi websites. Only seen 1 1000 S in the states, Les Wooten had one up in St. Joe, Mo.

Its a nicely done homebrew. Given its listed as a '77 I assume they started out with a T3 though not sure about the rear drum.

Just looks like a "tarted up" 850-T to me. How the year is 1977 is a good question, maybe a replacement frame, VIN tag swap from a T3, or? In any case, it's corroded, rusty and poorly cared for looking and not worth $4k IMO.

Looks like a hodgepodge from a T or T3...I live near Richfield Mn. Can check it out for someone really serious but wouldn't waste my own time on it.

Looks like a 850T with an extra disc up front. Drum rear, master cylinder, valve covers and gauges all 850 T. The only things not 850T are the tool box covers, headlight mounts, and V7 sport passenger grab bars.
Looks nice though and could be a fun bike. I'd love a pair of those 850S decals
My 850 T is a bigger faker.

Those are 850-T toolboxes, the grab rail is the 850-T grab rail/seal mount with the rear hoop lopped off.

No slots in the toolbox covers. Damn, the stock rear grab rail looks allright if you  chop the top off !

what do you think a fair price for that bike would be?

Looks like the slots are just covered over.

Maybe $2000, $2500 if it's had the cylinders replaced/replated.

Its just a 850T with a fancy paint job, no such thing as a 850S coming from the factory, like Charlie says plenty of rust and wear, it's a $1500 bike with a paint job.

Looks like an 850T, as was said, but I think $1500 is too low for a T in this condition, unless we can go back in time by 10 years.

The green color looks wrong -- it's not the vibrant green of the real 750S and 1000S (unless the lighting is poor).

Ever since seeing "Girl Meets Bike" I've admired the real ones more. But I can't see buying a fake one for $4000.

Might be fun to race from Milwaukee to Minneapolis on it though.

Nice though.

Looks like normal aftermarket Tommaselli headlight ears or copies of such parts that are on eBay.  Lots of wonky details, not a serious effort at faking a sport model beyond some taping & paint.  Compared to the condition of the paint, much of the "patina" looks superficial & convenient for marketing purposes.  Not real, just potentially fun to ride with much fewer regrets about consequences vs a real 750S or 850 LeMans of the period..

I agree with others about the $1500-$2000 actual selling value range, especially if cylinders haven't been done.

Looks like someone inherited a barn find and is selling it without cleaning it up. The previous owner probably made a bunch of mods to satisfy himself, and now the new owner, knowing very little about the bike and caring less, is attempting to get the most for it. At least it wasn't cafe'd or bobbed or chopped, or any of those other ridiculous practices.

It's not even the proper gas tank -- just the T/T3/Convert, etc., unit. Funny not to have noticed before.

Count me out.

I just called about it for fun.  John Stodder (spelling) answered the phone. He is  an old Guzzi/BMW guy who worked at Midway/ Moto America in Lillington NC back in the early mid 90's and knows Guzzi's. They bought it and it is an 850 T that has been sitting for a couple of years. He will not start it until after he pulls the plugs and sees what going on inside the bores.
He said if it is flaking he will re-crome the bores. It needs a battery and carb cleaning.  So he knows his stuff. He worked for Fran and wrenched with Eric Phillipe.  I also think I remember him as I bought my Millie  there and hung around that  shop whenever I could.

This is the real deal - 1974 Moto Guzzi 750S - one year only - Europe got this while North America got the V7 Sport with dual discs, same bike but different tool box lids (similar to the 850T with no louvres), seat, black painted exhaust, Aprilia signal lights. All 750S have left hand shift like the 850T and the motor does not have an oil filter.
This one came to Canada via Germany
