No start
« on: June 28, 2020, 09:17:47 AM »
My just acquired 2004 Stone won't start. After sitting 5 yrs. or so. I Clean the tank, New fuel, pump, filter.  I disconnected  the fuel line and there is good pressure.  Removing the plugs and squirting gas in the cylinders  and it fires. Injectors were cleaned by the BMW guy and fuel line checked.  I am new to EFI cycles and do not know what to look for now.
I do have the air box off.  Any ideas?
Thanks.

Well, it also needs compression. Like to know, being an 04 and Hydro. Does it have a fix kit. Well covered for a search. Hydro valve motors cam kit.
May be why bike sat.

Why was it not run for 5 years and did it run when parked?
What is the age and condition of the battery?
2, perhaps a bad relay not telling injectors to squirt?
And yeah, was the hydro recall done?

I'd start by replacing the relays then clean the cam position sensor. Be careful it has shims under it. there is a screen in the fuel tap also.

Thats why I always try to get guys to monitor the pump contacts with a small lamp, I have known several owners remove the sender and put extra gaskets under this upsets the gap from sensor to tone wheel

I'm saying the same thing but how do you know the sensor has failed?
When the engine is spinning over the ECU sees the pulses from the sensor and tells the load relay to power up coils and injectors, so if you know the relay is closed you know the sensor is ok or at least working for the moment
It's pretty hard to troubleshoot the sensor directly on the road, adding lights to each of the relays is a simple no brainer.
Ignore the meter the 3 lights are Start Relay, Injection relay, headlight relay. Really the only important one is Injection relay, its the only information you don't have otherwise.
