I'm back :-)
« on: March 17, 2019, 11:41:08 PM »
After I got back from the Pirsig ride last year, I sold my 1400 Touring, because, I had decided before that it wasn't my type of bike. I regretted it almost immediately and have been looking for another. Tonight I came to agreement on a 14 Custom with 5k. Fly out to NM and ride back. Second time in the last 10 months lol. I am stoked. I know the lack of windscreen will make for a slower trip back, but I'm very stoked.

enjoy your ride.  you can add the windscreen, but don't do so without the wings.  for summer, i also have a fly screen and up to about 60 mph, it works well, very smooth air.  the handlebars are a little forward on the custom, so you get more lean against the wind.  finally, i think the rear suspension may be a better quality with slightly longer travel than the touring comes with.
give us some impressions and pictures when you get back.

Congrats & welcome back! Did you have something in between the 1400's?

Being that you are riding from NM to Georgia, sounds like a great opportunity to add a couple hours to the trip and swing by AF1 Racing in Austin to pick up a screen. That southern route through TX, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama is much nice than dustbowl country, though Missouri & Tennessee are nice. Assuming you will super slab it.

I make that at least 1400 miles, that should be long enough to get well acquainted.
The best way to get to know a new bike.
Of course we need a trip report and  :gotpics:

Trying to work out logistics now. I did Santa Fe to Newnan on the last 3 days of my trip last year on my 14 Touring. I’m gonna miss the windscreens Vario and all. AF1 sounds like a great plan if they’re open lol when I do the trip. My Multistrada is gonna be jealous again.
