Bee Careful Out there
« on: December 20, 2018, 06:09:34 PM »

My other passion

First harvest of the season (9kgs)

I have four hives and it is such a slow season this year I could only harvest one super (box).

At least I have Xmas presents for family & friends

Seasons Greetings to all :thumb:

It's nice to know where one's food come from, nice job! Is the pollen coming from mostly wild plants or is there clover, etc. in your area?

I'm slap bang in the middle of suburban Adelaide so it is a "Heinz 57" mixture of nectars
Mainly flowering gums and callistemons (bottle brush) trees with a smattering of citrus thrown in.

I would normally  harvest 35-40 kgs of honey at this time of year so the plants are simply not flowering heavily.

I've been thinking of making my own Grappa for years.

Maybe I should start with something simple like Mead.
