Tonti swinging arm bearings different sizes - what bike?
« on: December 17, 2018, 03:17:31 PM »
I bought a spare Tonti swinging arm. Having fitted the UJ carrier bearing and one new swinging arm bearing I realised that the other swinging arm bearing is a different size. A few ml bigger in diameter than the other side. Weird.

Any one know what bike this came off?

Simon

They all have same bearing on each side, you got stiffed. Have to be careful these days.

I don't know of any (early) Tonti that has a different bearing on one side. What could be missing on the larger i.d. side is the flanged "insert" or bearing seat that fits into the swingarm and sometimes comes out when the bearing outer race is removed. It's not shown as a separate part on any diagram I can find.

Hi Antietam

I think that must be what has happened.

Thanks

The early 1972 models had UNI-joint Ø30 on one side and Ø28 on the other side entering the bearing.

The later (from 1974) had UNI-joints Ø30,2mm on one side and Ø30,0 on the side entering the bearing (6206 if I remember correct).

I hope this is a help for someone.

It's not the u-joint carrier bearing he's asking about, but the swingarm pivot bearings.
