So this morning I figured I'd tackle the forks, you know take them off really clean the internals and rebuild, replace or reassemble as needed. Guess its going to be more of a replacment at this point
I roll the rear of the SP on the life and into the wheel chock strap the rear of rthe bike so it cannot rock L/R and then put a softie and scissors jack under the oil pan. I talke some pressure off the from wheel to remove the axle, calipers and fender so far so good. I get the from calipers and axle removed and the forks drop a bit. So I wind the jack up and get the front wheel out. Then the fun begins....all of a sudden the fork lowers continue to slide down and off the fork leg. The only thing holding them on is the fork gaiters. I quickly slide each lower off and 1/2 the spring portion of the damper is still in the lower and the damper chamber is still in the for leg.
Thank goodness I didn't put off the fork maintenance as they seemed to be working at least marginally and could have easily backburned until after it was on the road. Could have been catastrophic. I guess its not when in doubt check it out with this older stuff. Its no doubt check it out!
