Strange sound from 1400 Eldo
« on: April 01, 2019, 06:57:00 PM »
Just got an Eldo 1400 this week and its got a strange sound after being shut off.  Kind of a very low rhythmic humming from somewhere center of the bike.  When I take the gas cap off it stops, tank releases a small bit of pressure as well.  Then about 3-5 min after putting the gas cap back on, the sound starts up again.  This goes on a few times and then it finally stops.  What is that?  Possibly part of the gas tank vapor routing?  It's just strange.  Have video of the sound but I don't see a way to post it.

Yup, the moaning whale sound, nothing wrong, just the valve that vents tank pressure. The heat from the engine after you shut it off will cause the fuel to expand and push vapors out the valve to the recovery  canister. My Custom does the same, I kind of enjoy it. Congrats on a lovely bike. :thumb:

Now go out and ENJOY that Eldo, that is an amazing bike!

And learn to say "moaning whale" in Italian in case someone asks you about that sound, LOL.

Here she is!!  So, is there any way to lessen that sound?  I can't imagine the bike sitting in front of a diner making that sound.  I've never heard another bike do that.

I did that, several times.   Still doing it an hour later.  I know it’s for “emissions” but can’t I bypass it somehow?  If the sound was for a few minutes, I get it, but over an hour?

Or, simply leave it alone as long as it's not causing any trouble. (Which is what I have chosen.)

Just saying...

All you need to know here.

https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/cal14-stop-the-moaning-whale.13051/

OK, NOW we get down to it!!  Thanks for the link.  So it looks to me like system itself is not only annoying, but creating issues at the intake.  I get why Guzzi has to do it, but it's gotta go.  I'm into saving the world and all but this mandated solution is a poor one at best.  I also inquired with GuzziTech about getting the "PC-V/AT300/GT-RX 5AM/7SM ECU FLASH TOOL" for my bike and they do this mod standard as part of that install.  No brainer for me.

Can you please do a report of what you wound up having to do, in some detail (yeah I know there is a link to the instruction) just to give a real world idea of how it went?

I, for one would be very interested.........
