I'm a brake guy, I like the G forces of powerful brakes as much as acceleration....I always upgrade my bikes brakes.....I got around to doing something on what I considered marginal brakes on my 09 Ford Ranger 4x4 5 speed....It has large discs up front but retains drums in the back...Even with new stock rotors and pads the braking wasn't very powerful...Others have said same ...
I threw the good rotors and pads in the scrap pile.. Form Summit Racing I bought Talon sloted and drilled rotors, $200 and Evolution high performance carbon-ceramic pads, $50.. I followed the pad manufacturers break in recomendation.. 5 agressive stops from 45 to 10 mph as quickly as possible and with no time for cool down, 5 moderate stops from 40 -5 mph and then drive for 5 minutes to allow the brakes to cool...I could feel the brakes stopping better in normal driving... Today after a bit of use I did several maximum effort stops from about 60 mph...Damn the truck almost stands on it's nose.. The brakes have a linear feel so it's not hard to keep it on the edge so as not to engage the anti lock system...Excellent
Something to think about with bike brakes.......By the way, Summit does sell stock parts and some bike parts...It's a good place to mail order heavy parts since there's free shipping over $100...
