2000 Jackal taillights

It seems like every other time I ride I have to remove the taillight lens, one or the other light fixture, and bend the copper tangs that press against the bulb contacts in order to make the bulb light again. Is this common? Is there a permanent cure?

Following a Jackal, I can tell you the tail lights are a known hazard.

Fix it before you get run over.  I've mentioned that to one of the moderators that rides one.

I think that is the dual lamp setup.  I have fixed about 40 of them.

Make sure your hand brake switch mechanism is clean and doesn't stick 'on'.  There is a small ball bearing in the brake perch that presses on the switch trigger.  Don't lose it.

Just LEDs alone might reduce the heat and current enough to provide a remedy for the problem.

When I got my Stone, the original tail light lens had been replaced by a couple of bubble lenses like you see on old hot rods. One of the reflectors was toast too. I ordered a new OEM lens, which was remarkably inexpensive. No replacement was available for the reflector, so I ended up using a foil tart cup. The inside of the light isn't pretty, but when the lens is on you can't tell which light is the "baker's special"

Thank you, pehayes! I took your advice, replaced the bulb sockets with standard sockets from Autozone and a little JB Weld. Replaced the flimsy turn signals a previous owner had installed with some bullet-shaped LEDs, and I think I'm good to go.
