I want to trade my 1400 Touring
« on: July 20, 2019, 10:26:23 AM »
I’ve made up my mind.  The California is going down the road.  I miss being able to ride on roads that aren’t glass smooth pavement.  It’s too heavy and I’m not a modern cruiser guy.  I also want something my daughter can hop on and ride in the summer when she’s home from college.  I believe the California is a truly a great machine.  It’s just not the one for me at this point in my life.

I absolutely love the V7II with the Scrambler kit which is weird since the Stornello leaves me cold and I’d never buy one.  I don’t like the paint scheme or the side plates and I much prefer the Arrow exhaust of the Scrambler.  Since I’d be riding a mix of pavement and gravel the power output of the V7 wouldn’t be an issue.  My DRZ400S never felt underpowered and I used it in the same way.  A.J. Cycle has a gorgeous red Scrambler but David has zero interest in a trade for my bike.  He said he can’t move them.  The fact he says that when I’m inquiring about a Scrambler he’s had sitting on his floor for three years makes me shake my head.

I’d love a road going version of the V85TT but I’m not waiting two years for one.

I think I’m going to list my bike on here and on Craigslist.  In another thread someone told me life is too short to own a bike you don’t love.  They were right.

Having seen your posts for a while, this is not surprising news. My recent divestiture of my Cali Custom was for similar reasons. It did take a while, though.

Yep John Boy, I saw this one coming and you are right. Riding motorcycle is one of the pleasures in life that we should not  compromise on. One should love their bike with the same loyalty as their mate as they are Similar in many ways💁

John, I remember our first back and forth posts, in late summer of 2009, when I was thinking about buying one of the 'blowout' 1200 Sport bikes.  You  liked yours so much that it was a good part of my motivation to buy mine.  Must be something about you Vermont/New Hampshire guys.  Between you and Eddie, seemed like the 12S was the right bike.  And it was!

Another 12S would probably be more than your daughter would want to manage, so going toward the smallblocks is probably the right move.   Though I bet you wish they'd imported the 4v model here in the US.  I would've probably kept my 2v, and picked up a 4v model (rollerized of course.)

Best of luck with your decision.

Bob
