74 Eldo Stiff Front Brake
« on: August 11, 2019, 12:33:03 PM »
I've been having some issues with the front brake on my 74 Eldo, lately. It's the original single disk with a new Brembo F09 caliper. Lately, it feels extremely stiff and wooden. It brakes ok, but maybe not as well as it should, and it's very hard to pull. The lever hardly travels at all, when I squeeze it. I've tried bleeding it, several times. No air bubbles and no difference in braking after each bleed. Any ideas?

I had same problem on my Eldo - you gotta change the master cylinder - go to mgcycle and look at this: Round reservoir 12mm master cylinder T3 G5 SP LeMans GU17660253.

Others here will chime in about size and how it matches up, but this will cure your ills....

Stock "15 mm" (actual 15.84) master cylinder should work better with the F09 caliper than the original F08. But, it still might be worth exploring a different one, maybe a 13mm-1/2" master cylinder.

I've rebuilt about a dozen with the genuine Brembo kits. Fairly easy job.

Excellent.  :thumb: That fits my budget a lot better, and I like the old cast reservoir, as opposed to the white plastic one on the new replacement ones. Any specific vendor you'd recommend for the kit?

Mine was like that with the stock MC until Charlie added a second disc.  Then all was good.
