Oh, the Indiana takes the cake for ugliest Ducati.  Why they built a Japanese Custom is beyond me.  It's not to say any of them couldn't be great bikes; I just never liked the style.

I forgive the Indiana.
Cagiva followed a trend and it looks like every other metric cruiser from the early '80s. Magna, Shadow, Intruder, Eliminator, Madura, Excalibur etc.

When I was in a moto tech program in the early 80's they were referred as the ' Toasters on wheels"

There are a lot of pretty ones, but FWIW this is the Ducati photo that initially got my attention in around 1977, as a kid.  I still have the Cycle Magazine it came in, complete with mailing label to me, plus another copy that I can read without messing up the original  :grin:

Part of the appeal of the original 900SS to me was the combination of mild, traditional blue/green colors with an aggressive race style sport bike.  Ducati did not generally copy Guzzi or Italian cars in the use of red paint until the Hailwood Replica - which had a paint scheme created by a race team in England, not a stylist in Italy.
