98 EVTail light assembly

The bulb holders are shot (they look almost melted) on my taillight assembly so I get a lot of intermittent loss of brake and/or taillight. I do have both brake and taillights on my trunk so I have something. Turn signal always works. Lens is held on with zip tie.
Anyone just replace the whole unit with new brake and taillights? Looking for suggestions.

Most people cut out the back of the reflector and glue in a metal socket.

In todays world, I might consider cutting the back of the reflector and gluing in an LED bulb with wires soldered to it, since the LED shouldn't need replaced.
Then glue on the lens once you know you don't need to go back in.

I’ve replaced the turn signals twice . The rubber cracks and they flop down. Last time I replaced the whole rear assembly. Not hard but keep a sense of humor. Check out MG cycle.com - item # 30740960. At $164.00 for everything is a good deal. Much more if you bought it piecemeal. Harpers probably has it also.

I put front turn signal stalks on the rear. They're an inch shorter. Less leverage, less floppage. I put LED's in the taillight and the turn signals. The sockets hadn't yet started to melt, now they won't.

Hi Folks,

I replaced the brake / running lights with an inexpensive LED trailer light kit. Cost about $30 and is much brighter than the stock units. Plus I don't have my riding buddies telling me what lights aren't working every time we stop. It looks better in person and an easy install. The purists may not approve, but I'm pretty happy with it.

When my taillight vibrated itself to smithereens, I found a black lollipop LED taillight at Pep Boys, bought some aftermarket El Cheapo directionals, and went to town. That was ten or twelve years ago. It wasn't until this year that someone noticed that there wasn't a plate light and made a fuss about it.

I got light up and stopped by a new cop in training one evening coming into Somerset, Wi which is a notorious speed trap town. My liscence plate light was inop, they gave me a fixit ticket but wanted to jail me, I assume for training.

I glued in some new bulb holders until i find the right trailer light like you Craig.

I got mine at Walmart. It was cheaper online than in the store by about $20. So I ordered online and picked it up in the store.

I drilled mine and ran some self-tapping screws up there as a fix. Seemed to work, so I did it on the new ones, too.
